FERRIES - PUBLIC TRANSPORT


To and from Piraeus and other Cycladic islands


During the summer, Folegandros is linked to Piraeus with fast ferries on a daily basis. The trip lasts between 3.5 and 4 hours. The ferries also call at: Sifnos, Milos, Thera (Santorini), Amorgos, Naxos, Paros and Syros. With conventional ferries, the trip lasts for around 11 hours, depending on the route.


Conventional ferries also call at: Kythnos, Serifos, Sifnos, Kimolos, Milos, Sikinos, Ios, Thera, Paros and Naxos.


Local boats connect Folegandros throughout the year to: Thera, Anafi, Thirassia, Ios, Sikonos, Naxos, Paros, Syros, Kythnos and Kea.

Transport on the island


Buses connect Karavostassis port with Hora and Ano Meria. There are always buses meeting the ferries, irrespective of their arrival time. There is also a taxi, and agencies renting cars and motorcycles.

Tourist boats leave Karavostassis and Aggali daily for the island’s southern beaches. A round trip of the island is organized when the weather is good.


By boat

Anchorages:There are no organized marinas.


The main mooring sites are in the port. Kravostassis, and in Aggali bay, in Vathy.


Karavostassis (maximum depth 8 m) is protected from all westerly winds.


Attention to north-eastern, eastern winds and scirocco. The sea-bottom is sandy.


Attention to pennants. The port becomes quite crowded during the peak tourism periods.


Aggali (max. depth 29 m) is a very safe anchorage for all northern winds.


Attention required with south-westerly winds.


Consult the locals with respect to local weather signs and moor in Karavostassis or, if you don’t have enough time, at roads in the adjacent beach, Agios Nikolaos (only small vessels, up to 20 feet, not sailing boats).
